Write the Vision, It’s for An Appointed Time

One of the coolest things about writing is that, at any hour in 24/7, when God favors us with the rain of His Rhema word one can put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and record it.  This is something that yours truly has come to know in just a short time of blogging to bless the Kingdom of God!  It is at those times that the Lord, in His infinite wisdom, inspires this blogger to record what God is saying to His people.  When I woke up this morning, God began to give me this Rhema word for our readers.  My goal was to write another post later this week, but today I knew that God wanted this Rhema word to go forward sooner.  The same spirit that inspired the Old and New Testament writers is still with us today. God still speaks to those who have the faith to hear His voice. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17)”. “But how are people to call upon Him Whom they have not believed [in Whom they have no faith, on Whom they have no reliance]? And how are they to believe in Him [adhere to, trust in, and rely upon Him] of Whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14 AMP)”

The word of God consists of what is written in the Scriptures (Logos) and that which is spoken (Rhema)Rhema, the spoken word of God, are the teachings or utterances in which God through someone declares His mind. Rhema is the divine instruction by the preachers of the gospel, words of prophecy and prophetic announcement.  The Bible is the divinely inspired, inerrant and infallible word of God (Logos).  The Rhema is the revelation given, to us, by God to help us understand and it is the prophetic articulation of that revelation that encourages and inspires us.   This brings us to the topic at hand, “Write the Vision”.

“Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.  For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.  Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” (Habakkuk 2:1-3)

This is an example of where God gave a Rhema word of instruction to the Prophet Habakkuk, for the ages, that became divinely inspired, inerrant and infallible Logos for our practical application!  It is the Logos and Rhema that enables us to clearly hear the voice of God, and his divine instruction, such that we can write the vision down.  This particular passage provides us with some very specific instructions:

  1. Like Habbakuk, you have to first see the prophetic vision and feel the burden.  Proverbs 29:18 (ESV) says, “where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law”.  You can’t expect anyone else to see what you don’t see and feel yourself.  This means that you have to seek the Lord through prayer and supplication.  God will bless you within your capacity to see the vision and feel that burden that comes with it.  Habakkuk 1:1 described the vision as “the burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw” and that burden brought Habakkuk to his knees.
  2. Write down in your journal what you see.  God has given the Logos for practical application and He may give you revelation and clarity through a pastor, a preacher, a teacher, a dream, answer to a prayer and/or prophetic articulation of a Rhema word, etc that connects with your vision.  There is a vast difference between a God-given vision and goal-setting.  The difference is that when your vision is God-given, it will come to pass.
  3. Make your writing clear.  You don’t need to be an elaborate or eloquent writer to record the vision God is giving you.  Napkins, sticky notes and papers strewn here and there is not the best way to write a God-given vision.  If it’s all you have at the time that God is speaking, rewrite it later.  If your tablet is electronic, please print it or back up it someplace.
  4. Understand your vision and allow God to continue to speak into and through the vision (what is your personal vision for yourself, your marriage, your family, your church, your community, your ministry, your business, your career, etc.).  Make it practical and don’t allow negative people to speak into it or negative experiences to deter it.
  5. Once you have meditated, watched and prayed; sought the wisdom of God’s word; seen and felt the burden of the vision and written it down; it is up to you by the power of God and leading of the Holy Spirit to run (make some rapid progress) with it.  Although God will call upon others to help, no one else can carry out a vision that God has imparted to you.
  6. Recognize that the vision will come to pass in God’s appointed time; not your time.  Like Habakkuk, you may not see the fullness of the vision in your day so be sure to leave it in a way that someone else can find it and carry it through generations if it is a long-term vision.
  7. When you have written the instructions God has given you, although it may seem like it is deferred and that it is taking a long time, wait and see the mighty and wondrous work of the Lord!

My dearly beloved father, the late Charlie Hunt used to use a composition book to write down what the Lord was giving to him for his family, for his service in the church and community, for his business, for stewardship of the property he inherited, and for financial planning and management.  Daddy tried buying those composition books for me, but I didn’t like them because they were not pretty enough.  That brings me to a ‘laugh-out-loud’ moment because I now am using them and have purchased a pretty purple one!  I remember finding and reading some of daddy’s composition books after God called him home to eternal rest.  Here he was, a man born in 1894 with only an elementary school education, plainly writing the revelations that God had articulated to him.  Assuredly my family and I, through our inheritance, are benefactors of that which God led daddy to write in those cheap little tablets.

Before concluding this post, I must share with you another personal testimony!  If you are reading this blog, you are looking at the manifestation of a Rhema word that was prophetically articulated to me by my former pastor, Dr. Eugene Johnson.  That Rhema word that Pastor Johnson gave to me during one of our many meetings was simply this, “write your vision”!  I am convicted and eternally grateful that this revelation, via a Rhema word, was given to my pastor to help me understand the working of this scripture in the vision that God was beginning to give me and has been bringing to pass over the years.  Now, in this appointed time, God is leading me to run with it! May it also bless and encourage you to write down what God is saying to you so that you may run with whatever the vision is that He is giving you!
